Keeping Your Baggage With You

By far one of the biggest issues about traveling commercially is the hassle that can occur when your bags go missing. Once you check your bags you simply assume that they will be checked correctly by the airline and will arrive at your destination at the very same time that you will but many times this is not the case and it may be as many as several days before you and your luggage see each other again but the good news is that there are several things that you can do to help ensure that your baggage gets returned to you more quickly.

To begin with it is imperative to mark your luggage several times with as much contact information as you can. This should include your name, address, home phone number, cell phone number, and e-mail address and also contact information for where you will be staying as well. Placing a luggage tag on the outside of your suitcase is a good idea, however it is also a good idea to tuck a slip of paper with this information into your bag as well. This will help to cover you if the bag is damaged or the tag inadvertently ripped off.

If your bag does go missing it is a good idea to immediately notify the carrier so that they can locate your bags and begin to have them redirected to where you are staying. When this happens on your return home it is not too difficult under normal circumstances but when your luggage is missing for the first day or two of your holiday this can be not only difficult but somewhat disenchanting. One of the best ways to ensure that you don’t let this type of situation ruin your holiday is to make sure that you pack a few of the necessities in your carry on to help ensure that you are ready to go when you arrive whether you have your larger pieces of luggage or not.

This is just one of the things that can be a hassle when you fly commercially and unfortunately it is something that is unavoidable in this type of scenario. The only way to really avoid this issue is to very simply carry on everything and pack lighter or fly on a private jet where you know your bags will stay with you the entire flight. Commercial airlines don’t mess up that often, however, when it is your bags that go missing it is a big deal at the time that it is putting a damper on your holiday.
